About

Caroline Tseng from New York University, Leonard N. Stern for Street-Spotted.com

The brainchild of Caroline Tseng, a recent graduate from NYU Stern, Street-Spotted.com is a college fashion blog inspired by the uber-chic NYU students who are able to look completely put-together every single day, rain or shine, hot or f*ing freezing.

We know what it’s like juggling papers, exams, readings, commuting, messy roommates, ex-boy or girlfriends, too much or no money…the list goes on. With all this to deal with, it’s even more impressive that students make the effort to look good.

We decided that something had to be done about this. People had to be recognized.

So we’ve created a place to document fashion as it happens every day. Each week we go out and “spot” for anything that catches our eye — crazy kicks, a beautiful coat, cool hat, a whole ensemble, or simply a certain swagger.

For us, it’s not necessarily about what’s “in” or what the latest trends are. After all, as Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion fades, only style remains the same.” It’s about someone defining style in their own right, be it bold or understated, luxury or discount.

We’re starting at NYU, but soon we’ll be moving into other colleges. We know there’s more out there and we want to see it all.

So continue looking good, subscribe to the right over there, and get ready to be spotted…

You could be next.

The Team:

SS Mary Parker Jessup As a child, Mary Parker often experimented with splatter painting while festooned in various articles and accessories of her mother’s that she had casually slipped on in her absence. Now a studio art major at NYU and a member of the fabulous Street-Spotted team, she continues to combine her love of art with her passion for fashion, moving outside the small world of her mother’s closet and into the style savvy streets of New York. She jumped at the opportunity to work with Street-Spotted admiring the emphasis on unique, individualized style, rather than on a particular trend, look, or designer brand. Mary Parker’s mantra has been the words of Coco Chanel, “In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.”

Check out Mary Parker’s incredible art work here.

Sam Teich is a sophomore at the Gallatin School of NYU, concentrating in graphic design and visual communications. Sam has travelled extensively, and is an accomplished photographer in addition to working for Street-Spotted. She describes her own personal style as colorful, cute, and comfy, loving to mix retro and modern styles (Zooey Deschanel is her favorite!). Sam loves art, music, dogs, coffee…and fashion, of course! SS Sam Teich
SS Lana Lee Sometimes things are better said in a song, and conveniently, Sexy Heroes wrote this song about her: www.last.fm/music/Sexy+Heroes+In+Transit/_/Anal+Eel (ahem, spell the title backwards). But in all seriousness, Lana is a freelance band photographer and Street-Spotted enthusiast. She is all about: avant-garde, travel, music/music-making, body modification, hip-shaking, dirty pretty things, serendipity, late nights, good company, street fashion, and innovation. She is active on the music scene as a band manager, merch-girl, concert voluneer, A&R/Style intern, and official cook for starving artists, but has been blurring the line between music and fashion all of her life. She is as tall as a 5′2 tree, but she can make her hair defy gravity.
Kim Greco has cared about fashion since the first day she shopped the glittering aisles of The Limited Too. She has always been enraptured by the industry’s ability to continually inspire her and always feel exactly relevant to her life. Now an English major, Business minor at NYU, Kim finds herself happily surrounded by the echoes of heart-stopping fashion that reverberate through New York City. Kim’s personal style is romantic/lace, gravitating toward punk details, and overlaying simple sophistication. She accredits her inventive energy and ideas for composing looks to her biggest vice: buying and reading fashion magazines by the dozen! SS Kim Greco
SS Ashima Talwar2 Ashima’s schedule is usually taken up by baking rainbow cakes and perusing YouTube cover artists. In her free time, she’s a freshman at NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, concentrating in Public Policy and Photography. Her interest in fashion bloomed later than most…she’s embarrassed to admit to sporting the black with navy. BUT, she started sewing classes in third grade, began designing for her school’s (shoutout to Holton-Armsssss!) fashion show, People United by New and Creative Hunches (PUNCH), in ninth grade, and things sort of escalated from there. Join her for thrifting any day.

P.S. Hi, mommy!

Emily Wais may participate in a few of NYU’s clubs and organizations, but she still considers “people-watching” her favorite extra-curricular activity. Her drawers are stuffed with band tees, eye-popping colors, bold patterns, and one-of-a-kind shirts that she has made herself. With a wardrobe like hers, it’s no surprise that Emily can be found dashing through the streets of the west village wearing pieces that blatantly clash, but somehow still work together. Emily’s style changes on a daily basis—her outfits range from girly and flirty to sophisticated and city-chic, but no matter what, her look is always young and fun. SS Emily Wais

Special thanks to Jayne Scalisi for the photos of Kim, Ashima, and Emily.
