SPOTTED: Fall Yellows

by Caroline on November 13, 2008

Ginger bet Bobst and KMEC

Ginger by Bobst and KMEC

Shirt: Ted Baker, $30
Belt: Armani, 60 Euros
Jeans: True Religion, $180
Shoes: Reverse Jam, 95 Euros

Describing his style: Don’t have one.
Fave stores: Hugo Boss
School, Year, Major: CAS, Sophomore, Journalism/Politics

Ahh..Fall in the city. The orange-yellows, copper, and brilliant reds all contrasted against the ever-present blackish grey of concrete sidewalks. It always feels so romantic and soft, a beautiful prelude to the coming winter.

What I love about Ginger’s look is that it exudes this Fall essence–a contrast of bright, unexpected yellow against simpler, blue-green tones. As you can imagine, it was his bright yellow kicks that caught our eye, and of course, the confident accompanying swagger.

Relaxed, masculine, bold. That’s how I’d describe Ginger’s style. But that’s just me.

SPOTTED: Sarah’s Amethyst Slippers

by madison on November 11, 2008

Sarah near Weinstein

Glasses: Hong Kong
Shirt: UrbanOutfitters, $25
Skirt: Hong Kong, $55
Tights: Hue tights, $13

Purse: Muji bag, $1

Describing her style: Eclectic, understated
Fave stores: Opening Ceremony, Oak, Pas De Deux, Alexander Wang
School, Year, Major: Gallatin, Junior, New Media Design

Not to say that Sarah’s outfit reminded me of Dorothy, but the dark amethyst shade of her shoes were definitely just as exciting as Dorothy’s ruby slippers.

I also love Sarah’s skirt–the high waist is super flattering and at first glimpse it looks like she’s wearing a dress. And the cream color complements the purple so well!

Fave stores: Any thrift store
Fave designer: Michael Kors
School, Year, Major: Gallatin, Theater & Poetry, Junior

Loucia-
Describing her look: Too hard to define.
School, Year, Major: Steinhardt, Sophomore, Applied Psych

Groovy is definitely a word I’d use to describe Trae’s look. The most impressive part of this outfit for me is how she pulls off throwing a sweater over the flannel…and then all that over a crazy-print shirt. That’s definitely a look I’d never be able to pull off.

Loucia’s look is more fitted and sleek–the tall, black suede boots, slim leather jacket, fitted jeans. What I love about the look is that it’s quite simple–but the accessories (especially that yellow knit hat)–really stand out and make a statement on their own.

We like how she paired a pretty chic dress with a leather jacket. Tough leather jacket with a chic dress, black tones with brown tones…she’s definitely doing something right here. We love how she gives out that that rocker vibe, yet still subtly chic and elegant at the same time.. take a lesson and mix and match your outfit styles like Bryna the next time you dress out!

One word. Fedora. I mean, look at that thing. It’s amazing. It’s almost as sweet as Carmen Sandiego’s (yes, I am making a reference to Carmen because that’s who I was for Halloween). But seriously…haven’t seen a fedora worn that well in a while.

Now that winter’s kicking in–despite the surprisingly warm weather we’ve been having–is it fedoras out? Beanies in?

I say…rules are made for breaking.

Rachel-
Describing her look: Comfy. Functional. Relaxed Preppy.
Fave designer: Justin Timberlake for William Rast
School, Year, Major: Texas Christian University, Junior, Psych

I just love things in pairs. Hugging salt & pepper shakers, finger-exposing mittens, toe socks, dangly earrings, dangerous heels, mushy couples that take up 5/6ths of the sidewalk…

Well. Maybe not everything.

But back to the good pairs. Like awesome fashionable friends who visit each other on their breaks. Like Stephanie and Rachel, who looked so cute we were scared to approach them. Rachel, who actually goes to Texas Christian University, came up to see her girl Stephanie, the NYU-er. South meets North. And both looking incredible. Ahh yes. Change is coming to America…

Why don’t my friends who go to schools in the south come visit me? Hello, Shaina? Angela? (Please don’t discuss, it hurts too much).

But yes, thanks ladies for your super trendyness (trendiness? sp?) I will be going to Forever 21 VERY SOON.

SPOTTED: pretty in pink.

by GABE on October 10, 2008

Mandy across the street from Bobst

Mandy across the street from Bobst

T-shirt: Jaw Maker (A guy who sells t-shirts by the roads at Union Square), $35
Tights:
American Apparel, $25
Shoes:
from Taiwan, $40
Total: $100

Describing her style: Eclectic. Girly or like a bum depending on her mood.
Favorite Designer: Marc Jacobs
School, Year, Major: Steinhardt, Senior, Communications

We spotted the unique pink print on Mandy’s t-shirt right from across the road. It helped that those cute little pink shoes matched the t-shirt. And surprisingly, it was the black tights and the newly-dyed jet black hair that served as accents to the pink. Well, pink IS the new black! So i guess in this instance, black is the new pink. Whatever! It’s all good. That’s all that matters.

Blouse: Macy’s, $30
Necklace: Family heirloom from mom
Belt: Borrowed from friend, vintage, $0
Skirt: Old Navy, $6
Flip flops: Havaianas, Brooklyn Industries, $23

Describing her style: No mold, hipster mod-depending on her mood. Taking what she likes from a certain look and adding her own classical pieces.
Most Frequent Store: Atrium (esp. for jeans!)
Fave Designer: Marc by Marc Jacobs

School, Year, Major: Senior, Stern, Finance and International Business

Sammie was standing in Gould Plaza in one of the many mysterious clutters of important-looking Sternies that forms during common hour. She dished all — even a little secret about her one-size-too-large skirt. By buying it one size too big, she was able to revamp it and scrunch it with the belt she borrowed from her friend Sascha (kudos, Sascha!).

I love revamping old pieces from my closet. Any tips out there of older items you’ve used for an entirely new look? Please share!

Nope he’s not a model. He’s just a regular NYU student, who happens to be tall, good-looking and wearing beautiful clothes. We know not everyone is blessed with height or looks like that with which we can admire in this picture of Ryan. But do it right and you too can put together an equally Vogue-worthy look!

Purse: Bought from somewhere in West Village, Regalo Tokyo, $470
Shorts: Mango
Leggings: From Japan

Our scouting team spotted this sassy lady near the library and we had to flag her down to do a feature. Look at how Sae’s zebra print scarf adds color to her simple, earth-toned pieces. As we saw with Megan’s beautiful vintage scarf, a tasteful scarf is definitely a good assessory to spice up your whole outfit!

Time to shop for some new scarfs? It’ll be especially perfect for the fall weather that seems to be settling in quite soon…

SPOTTED: Two Trendy

by Caroline on October 1, 2008

Alexandra and Ben in front of Silver

Alexandra and Ben in front of Silver

On Ben -
Hoodie:
Vivienne Westwood
Shirt:
American Apparel
Jeans:
D&G, $250
Shoes:
Dior, $700

On Alexandra -
Sunglasses:
H&M in Madrid (!), 7 Euros
Hoodie:
Weathervane
Scarf:
Metro station Madrid, 5 Euros
Jeans:
Steve & Barry’s, $15
Sneakers:
Converse

Alexandra’s beautifully flaming red hair and Ben’s Dior shoes made me turn my head around so quickly I got whiplash (thanks, guys). Initially chasing them down to request monetary retribution for by my neck injury, I settled instead for their fashion secrets.

Notice the incredible color/pattern coordination…even with each other! I mean, [breaks into song] “that what friends are forrrrrrr. In good times, in ba–” [gets smacked by GABE. End song].

Ben -
School/Year/Major:
Steinhardt, Senior, Communications
Describing his style:
Fluid

Alexandra -
School/Year/Major:
Steinhardt, Senior, Public Relations for Music Companies
Describing her style:
Edgy modern
Fave Designer: Betsey Johnson for dresses, and John Galliano

P.S. Alexandra recommends: to get hair as awesomely bright and red as hers, go to a professional! She’s tried it at home by bleaching then dying her hair with Matrix, but it definitely doesn’t come out as nicely as when done by professionals. Do as you dare…
